Mayor De Blasio Unveils Bike Safety Plan

Mayor Bill de Blasio has presented a plan to improve safety for bicyclists in New York City.

Seventeen bikers have been killed in the city already this year, compared with 10 in all of 2018.

“No loss of life on our streets is acceptable. With a dangerous surge in cyclist fatalities, we have to keep pushing the envelope and increasing our efforts,” Mayor de Blasio said.

The effort includes greater NYPD enforcement of bike lanes. New protected bike lanes will also be created and new street designs will also help make it safer for bikers.

“We are here to protect you and we take that job seriously. We will not stop until we have finally reached Vision Zero,” de Blasio said.
