MTA Addressing Homeless Problem

The MTA is taking steps to reduce the number of people living on the subways.

The agency has created a task force that will work with the state and police to develop a plan within the next 30 days.

“Through this Task Force we’re going to bring together a broad and empowered group that will help us to develop an expedited plan to keep our customers and workers safe and our trains moving - while providing much needed resources and assistance to this vulnerable population,” MTA Managing Director Veronique Hakim said.

Governor Cuomo ordered the MTA to address the homeless problem earlier this month, amid stats showing that the homeless population in the subway system has grown by 23 percent this year.
