Eric Garner Protests Continue

Supporters of Eric Garner rallied near Gracie Mansion on Thursday afternoon, calling for NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo to be fired.

They say demonstrations will continue for 11 days around the city, following the decision by federal prosecutors in Brooklyn not to file civil rights charges in the case. Wednesday marked five years since Garner died on Staten Island.

Mayor Bill de Blasio met privately with Garner’s mother Gwen Carr on Thursday. She told the mayor that Pantaleo and other officers involved in her son’s death needed to lose their job.

An NYPD trial has wrapped up and disciplinary action is possible against Pantaleo, including his potential firing. Police Commissioner James O’Neill will make the final decision by the end of August.
