Mayor De Blasio Warns About Heat Wave

Mayor Bill de Blasio is urging New Yorkers to take precautions during the heat wave this week.

“We are entering a heat emergency. It will be extremely hot – as I said, potentially dangerous weather this weekend,” de Blasio said.

Temperatures will return to the 90’s on Friday but will intensify even more this weekend. On Saturday, it could be close to 100 degrees.

“I want all New Yorkers to be aware that this is an extraordinary situation and everyone must take precautions,” de Blasio said.

He encouraged people to stay out of the sun, to stay hydrated and to check on their neighbors. There will also be about 500 cooling centers open throughout the city.
