New York City is announcing a major expansion of Citi Bike.
It will double the area served by the program and triple the number of bikes that will be available within five years. The expansion means that all of Manhattan and the Bronx will be covered by the program. It will also add addition coverage in Brooklyn and Queens.
"This expansion will help us build a more fair and equitable city for all New Yorkers," Mayor Bill de Blasio said.
The expansion is beginning with 25 new stations along the L-train line in Brooklyn. Additional stations will be added in those neighborhoods and Queens in the coming months.
"Even more communities will have access to this low-cost, sustainable mode of transportation. With double the territory and triple the number of bikes over the next few years, Citi Bike will become an even better option for travel around New York City," de Blasio said.
