There’s been no shortage of bad blood between the Yankees and Rays this season—stemming back to last year—and it briefly flared up after the top of the sixth last night, when CC Sabathia and Avisail Garcia had to be separated.
Earlier this year, the Yankees were upset about several of their players getting hit by pitches, and last season, Sabathia was tossed from a game for retaliating after Andrew Kittredge threw a pitch near Austin Romine’s head. Sabathia was also ejected for that incident, which earned him a one-game suspension served at the beginning of this year.
And all of that seemed to have come flooding back last night after Sabathia struck out Garcia looking to end the inning and appeared to say something, which caught Garcia’s attention.
And while I am not sure what he said, it certainly aroused one hell of a rebuttal as the two kept jawing at each other while Didi Gregoriushold Sabathia back.
Unfortunately, Gregorius wasn’t able to hold the remainder of each team back, as the dugouts emptied and bullpens cleared.
