The rumor that Kevin Durant was upset with the Golden State Warriors over the way they handled his injury gained nearly as much traction as his leg was in during the NBA Finals when a story surfaced yesterday about how teammate Andre Iguodala got the same treatment for an injury last season.
Which is why the thought that the New York Knicks may be a likely landing spot isn’t so ridiculous.
And another NBA insider echoed that thought yesterday.
Ric Bucher was a guest on "The Herd" with Colin Cowherd and he reported Durant prefers to sign with the Knicks. Additionally, Bucher also confirmed that report yesterday that Durant and Kyrie Irving have “met a couple of times”since Durant’s calf strain injury and also met following Durant’s surgery for his ruptured Achilles.
“My understanding is that they’ve been talking about potentially playing together for years since playing on the national team together,” Bucher said.
Here’s the wrinkle though, Bucher says Irving prefers the Brooklyn Netsand it makes sense considering Vegas just made BKNY as the overwhelming favorite destination at -300.
But Bucher has many reasons Durant is going to sign with the Knicks:
“He has so many ties to the Knicks organization. He’s the godfather of Royal Ivey’s daughter, a Texas alum, and a former teammate at OKC. Those guys are really good friends and he’s still an assistant coach with the Knicks. There is even a report that DeAndre Jordan, who played for the Knicks last year and is close with KD, could add fodder.”
And that seems like all the fodder KD needs to sign a “mother” of a deal with the Knicks.
