Huge Goldfish Is Caught By Upstate NY Water Treatment Plant

Here’s why you don’t flush an unwanted fish.

We all know goldfish are cute and small. They don’t stay that way if you flush them because you don’t want them anymore. Upstate New York nonprofit Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper posted a photo of a 14 inch goldfish that was plucked from the Niagara River, near a water treatment plant. Yes, they get that big and more!

The post explained "Goldfish can survive year-round in our watershed and can destroy the habitat of native fish," the post said. "Scientists estimate that tens of millions of goldfish now live in the Great Lakes."

They ask that you return the fish or give it away if you don’t want it. Flushing is only for funerals.
