Doctor Pleads Guilty On 34 Felony Drug Counts

Dr. Lawrence Choy pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges and will serve up to seven years behind bars for his role in the death of 2 men who died after having prescriptions filled through his office.

According to an article in the New York Daily News, Dr. Choy ran a practice that specialized in internal medicine and kidney disease until 2012.

In 2012 officials noticed that Choy started writing prescriptions for high levels of opioid pain killers and other controlled substances. In 2016 Dr. Choy's office was raided by DEA officials and his computers and records were confiscated.

In 2017 Dr. Choy moved his practice to Sheboygan Wisconsin but was still serving patients that came from Long Island, upstate New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Choy who was barred from writing prescriptions in 2017 will be sentenced in September. The doctor faces 27 counts for illegal drug sales, 5 counts of reckless endangerment, and 2 counts of manslaughter.
