New York City has announced that more than 50,000 people are now enrolled in the Fair Fares program.
It’s an effort by New York City that offers half-priced MetroCards to low-income New Yorkers.
“Using mass transit to get around is central to the lives of New Yorkers – struggling to afford it shouldn’t be,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said.
The city said enrollment increased dramatically after an online platform was launched in April.More than 70 percent of the current enrollees have done so digitally.
“50,000 New Yorkers now have access to a half-priced Metrocard thanks to this innovative partnership with the Council and I look forward to growing the program even further,” de Blasio said.
