Nassau County To Ban Styrofoam

Lawmakers in Nassau County will vote on Monday on a measure to ban Styrofoam.

The legislation would make it illegal for restaurants, food carts and other establishments to use containers, cups and other packaging made of Styrofoam. Advocates argue that the material can’t be recycled and is therefore harmful to the environment.

Fines upward of $2,500 could be imposed.

New York City and Suffolk have already imposed similar bans.
