Governor Cuomo Signs Bill To Expand School Zone Speed Cameras

Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation that will add more than 600 extra speed cameras to school zones around New York City.

“Speed cameras work. It is just undeniable,” Cuomo said.

The measure reinstates the program that the legislature let expire and brings the total number of speed cameras to 750. That means nearly every public school in the city will have a camera nearby.

“Since the speed cameras have gone in, fatalities in school zones have decreased 55 percent. So it's common sense. It works. We know it works,” Cuomo said.
