Mayor De Blasio Bans Glass and Steel Skyscrapers

Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced a Green New Deal for New York City that includes a crackdown on glass and steel skyscrapers.

Legislation introduced by the mayor would make it harder to construct the buildings. In order to contrast all-glass façade buildings, they will have to meet strict performance guidelines.

“If a company wants to build a big skyscraper, they can use a lot of glass if they do all the other things needed to reduce the emissions. But putting up monuments to themselves that harmed our Earth and threatened our future, that will no longer be allowed in New York City,” de Blasio said.

The goal is to reduce emissions by 30 percent by the year 2030.
