Northwell Health is presenting a fun-filled day in honor of our veterans' service this coming Memorial Day weekend, featuring a day of music, exhibits and even a performance by platinum-selling pop-rock band Imagine Dragons.
The inaugural Side By Side: A Celebration of Service event is a two-part festival on Saturday, May 25, honoring veterans and their families and recognizing Northwell Health's commitment to helping wounded veterans.
The day will begin with music, military exhibits and veterans' inspirational stories at a free event at Rockefeller Center.
Northwell announced the event in a video narrated by Iraq veteran Dustin "Doc" Kirby, who credits his smile, his diet and his quality of life to Northwell's doctors who repaired his broken jaw 10 years after he was shot in the face by a sniper while on duty in Iraq.
"When my daughter first saw me post-surgery, she didn't recognize her own father; she had never seen me smile," Kirby says. "On Saturday, May 25, it is my honor to stand side by side with my own personal heroes from Northwell Health on a day where service men and women and veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces will be celebrated like the rock stars we are."
Closing out the Side By Side festivities will be a ticketed Imagine Dragons concert at Radio City Music Hall, which is free for hundreds of military service members, veterans like Kirby and their families.
