With up to eight inches of snow in the forecast for their New Jersey community, brothers Brianand Patrick Lanigan knew their neighbor Natalie Blair would need their help. She depends on dialysis treatments and Brian, who works as an EMT, would be at work when the snowstorm hit, so it was up to younger brother Patrick to make sure Natalie would be able to leave her house for her treatment.
Patrick reached out to some fellow Parsippany High School seniors and four of his friends agreed to join him in getting up early to start shoveling at 4:30 a.m. It took the teens less than half an hour to clear the fresh fallen snow and they even had time to rest before getting to school, which had a two-hour delay.
Peter Lanigan, Patrick’s dad, tweeted a photo of the group of teens working on their act of kindness. His son’s good didn’t surprise him at all, he says Patrick is a “small kid with a big heart.”
