People Hurt After Wind Hits Cruise Ship

At least eight people have been hurt after a cruise ship that left New York Harbor Sunday afternoon for a seven-day tour was hit by a strong gust of wind late that night. Norwegian cruise officials said the Norwegian Escape was slammed by a gust that registered around 115-miles-per-hour, sending the boat tilting to one side.

Passengers say people and objects went flying(see video of the chaos to the right). Once the vessel arrived in Port Canaveral, Florida passengers who needed medical attention were transported to local hospitals. Norwegian says there's no damage to the ship.

“Just before midnight on Sunday, March 3, Norwegian Escape encountered unexpected weather in the form of a sudden, extreme gust of wind, estimated at 100 knots, which resulted in the ship heeling to the port side,” the cruise line wrote on Twitter. “Several injuries were reported and those guests and crew received immediate attention or are being treated by the ship’s medical staff.” The cruise has continued as planned.
