Long Island Rail Road Problems Continue

It’ll be a rough Thursday morning commute for Long Island Rail Road riders who use the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branch.

The LIRR has canceled 14 westbound trains and suspended eastbound service during the morning rush on these lines because of a deadly accident on Tuesday night in Westbury.Travelers using these lines are encouraged to give themselves extra time or find an alternate method of transportation.

On Tuesday night, a truck was hit by two trains at a crossing in Westbury, killing three people inside the vehicle.Authorities say the driver went around the flashing gates, believing they were trying to beat the trains.
