New York City Cracks Down on Parking Placard Abuse

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that New York City is taking steps to crackdown on those who abuse parking placards.

“Placard abuse erodes faith in government and has no place in our city – it’s simply a question of fairness,” Mayor de Blasio said in a statement.

The Department of Transportation is imposing a three-strike policy that will be in place by the spring. It means that officials who misuse the placards three times will have them permanently revoked.

“Misused and fraudulent placards increase congestion and pose a public safety risk. These initiatives give us the tools we need to start making a real dent in this pervasive issue, to help build a fairer city for all,” de Blasio said.

The DOT is also creating a new team of enforcement agents to ensure that placard rules are being followed.
