A driver allegedly ran over and killed a mother in Rockland County, while also injuring her husband and their six children.
The incident happened Wednesday afternoon at a 7-Eleven store in Garnerville. There was apparently an argument over smoking that resulted in 35-year-old Jason Mendez getting into his car and then allegedly running over the family.
“We had to take the subject down at gunpoint. The subject exited the vehicle with a knife. The officers Tased the subject, took him down and took him into custody,” Police Captain Martin Lund said.
The 32-year-old woman died from her injuries at the hospital. The husband and children were taken to the hospital.
Mendez has been arraigned and pleaded not guilty to a charge of second degree murder and seven counts of second degree attempted murder.
