Jury Finds "El Chapo" Guilty On All Counts

It’s official, Drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo"Guzman is being found guilty on all counts he’s been charged with. U.S. Attorney Richard Donoghue says he expects the 61-year-old Guzman to be sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole. Donoghue calls his conviction a victory for both the American and Mexican people.

Guzman was the leader of Mexico's Sinaloa drug cartel – some say he still is. Either way, it took a New York jury six days to find him guilty on ten counts of drug conspiracy and money laundering. Donoghue calls the decision “a day of reckoning.”

As you might expect, Guzman’s defense attorney says his client was presumed guilty before the trial even began. Attorney Jeffrey Lichtman said he and his team were honored to represent Guzman and will continue to fight for the now-convicted drug lord. His team plans to appeal.
