Cash Strapped MTA May Owe Millions in Back Pay

Three MTA subsidiaries have been dragged into court by several workers who claim the agencies have cheated them out of millions of dollars of pay over the years.

The MTA affiliated divisions on trial include the Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority, the MTA Bus Company, and the MTA Headquarters. The lawsuit also states that computer operators who work for the mentioned subsidiaries are paid less than workers who do the same jobs in other MTA units and many of the workers have been shortchanged on overtime pay.

The attorney for the dozens of workers who brought suit against the agencies, Arthur Schwartz, told the New York Post, "If we succeed its many millions of dollars-many tens of millions of dollars, which I hate to, say because the MTA needs money."

If the claims prove to be true the MTA could have violated pay laws for thousands of MTA workers. The MTA has not issued a statement on the lawsuit.
