NYC Employee Faces Suspension Over Breastfeeding Comment

A job opportunity specialist with the city of New York may be suspended without pay for harassing a co-worker who was breastfeeding her baby.

Terry Payton from New York City's Human Resources Administration is accused of yelling at a woman who was breastfeeding her 10-month-old in view of his office.  Payton's workmates told officials that they heard the suspect say "I don't want to be accused of sexual harassment."

Judge Astrud Gloade, who oversaw the hearing, handed down the 25-day suspension after hearing testimony from the woman involved in the incident and Payton's co-workers.

Human Resources spokesperson Lourdes Centeno told the New York Post the HRA does "not tolerate unprofessional behavior from any public servant". Centeno added Payton's punishment will be decided after he is given an opportunity to respond to the judge's ruling.

According to Payton's work record, he had received training about the offices breastfeeding rules just 4 months ago.
