Alleged Cash Machine Thieves Caught in Bed-Stuy

A tip from a citizen informant helped police track down and arrest a group of crooks this morning after they allegedly stole an ATM from a grocery store in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.

According to police records between 5 and 7 suspects fled the building as cops raided the basement. After a brief chase, five of the suspects were caught by officers from the 77th Precinct's anti-crime team.

After the suspects were in custody the cops found the stolen ATM in the basement of the building along with the blowtorch they allegedly used while trying to cut it open.

While searching the area surrounding the building the cops found a U-Haul and a hand truck used to steal the ATM.

A police source told the New York Daily News that officials think the 5 men in custody may be part of the team that has been stealing ATM's throughout the 5 boroughs.

No charges will be filed against the suspects who are in jail until the investigation is completed.
