The sky turned an eerie blue over New York City last night and it even prompted the mayor to say aliens were NOT attacking.
The New York power company Con Edison ended the mystery by saying says it's investigating the fire that caused a light to fill the skies. Turns out, it was a "short, small electrical" fire involving transformers at a substation in Astoria, Queens.
Mayor de Blasio’s office offered the explanation of the transformer fire and noted, tongue-in-cheek, “*Not* aliens” on Twitter.
The fire caused a power dip in the area, which went out at LaGuardia Airport causing a brief ground stop. The fire is out and no injuries were reported. Stunned New Yorkers who saw the strange glow posted pictures and videos on social media. Comments included people saying it was a terrorist attack, the end of the world, or a nuclear attack.
