Mayor De Blasio Wants Recreational Marijuana Legalized

Mayor Bill de Blasio is making a push to legalize recreational marijuana in New York.

“I have been convinced that we can establish a regulatory framework that keeps our streets safe, rights the wrongs of the past, and gives economic opportunity to communities hit hardest by the war on drugs," de Blasio said.

The mayor said the legalization should come with some restrictions, such as requiring buyers to be 21 years old and a ban on using pot in public.  He said old convictions for low-level offenses should also be thrown out.

“I support legalization because we’ve developed a path forward that  will help make our City fairer. I look forward to working with the State  as to make this a reality,” de Blasio said.
