Public Housing Woes Plague NYC

The de Blasio administration and the New York City Public Housing Authority were dubbed the "Worst Landlords of the Year" by outgoing Public Advocate Letitia James last night during the yearly ceremony.

The worst landlord title which is normally given to private landlords was awarded to the City and NYCHA because of the long list of troubles tied to the agency over the past few years.

The most recent NYCHA problems came to light after a multi-year investigation conducted by the Manhattan US Attorney's Office found system-wide fraud and mismanagement issues that included falsifying lead paint tests and inappropriate sexual conduct between employees while on the job.

NYCHA spokesperson Jasmine Blake told the New York Post, "We share (James') hope that the City can forge a productive partnership with HUD as we continue rebuilding NYCHA for its half-million residents"

The worst landlords list was created by NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio when he served the city as the public advocate.

Letitia James will become the Attorney General of New York State next month.
