In an effort to reduce delays, the MTA is increasing some speed limits for trains in New York City.
“We’ve been progressively taking out unnecessary speed restrictions,” NYC Transit President Andy Byford said.
A handful of speed limits have already increased from 15 mph to 20 or 30 mph on the “N” and “R” lines. The MTA said speed limits will also be increased at more than 100 other locations by the spring.
Byford said the increase has already resulted in a decline in delays. He said safety remains a priority, but argued that speed and safety aren’t necessarily connected.
