Dr. Perry graduated from Rutgers College magna cum laude with high distinction in zoology and received his MD degree with distinction in research from the Albany Medical College of Union University in 1981.
After training in general surgery at Harvard Medical School's Beth Israel Hospital and in burn surgery at the New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center, he trained in plastic surgery with Thomas J. Krizek, MD, FACS, at the University of Chicago. After his Chief Residency in Chicago, he took extra training in facial cosmetic surgery with Drs. Baker and Gordon in Miami.
Dr. Perry joined the full-time faculty of the Rutgers - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 1987. Now in private practice, he spent 12 years teaching plastic surgery residents at the University of Pennsylvania and now serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Surgery at Columbia University, an Adjunct Professor at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and Clinical Associate Professor at Rutgers Medical School. In his Somerset New Jersey and Park Avenue Manhattan offices, his practice is devoted to cosmetic surgery where he helps teach cosmetic surgery techniques to Columbia and Cornell trainees. He on the staff of Lenox Hill and Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospitals and operates there and other surgicenters.
Dr. Perry is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc. and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has published dozens of scientific papers in medical journals and has also written chapters in medical textbooks.
Dr. Perry spent 10 years as the Governor’s appointee to the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners and has won awards for his research, his clinical practice, his writing and was honored to receive the Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Contributions to Plastic Surgery by the New Jersey Society of Plastic Surgeons for his work on the State Board. He wrote Are You Considering Cosmetic Surgery? and Straight Talk about Cosmetic Surgery (Yale University Press),2007’s best health book award winner. His New York Times best seller You- Being Beautiful was co-authored with Drs. Michael Roizenand Mehmet Oz.
Dr. Perry been on the Boards of Trustees of his county medical society and the state plastic surgery society and was the Chief of Plastic Surgery at New Jersey’s Robert Wood Johnson Somerset Medical Center. He has been listed in the New York Area Top Doctors book from 1999 through 2026. He has been listed in New Jersey Life magazine's Top New Jersey Doctors, New Jersey Magazine's Top Doctors, and New York Magazine’s Top Doctors.
Dr. Perry has operated on the Discovery Channel and on the Dr. Oz show and has been a guest on PBS, Good Morning America, Oprah, Red Table Talk, Tamron Hall, and other programs. His 11 appearances on Dr. Oz included the live removal of Jimmy Fallon’s mole. He was a member of the medical advisory board for the Dr. Oz show and has been on Oprah and Friends Radio five times and is a frequent guest on New York and national radio shows. For over 21 years, he has hosted What’s Your Wrinkle, the plastic surgery show Saturdays at 6 pm on WOR radio. This is podcasted as “Straight Talk about Cosmetic Surgery”. He has been quoted in USA Today, the New York Times, Esquire, Oprah Magazine, Cosmopolitan, and many other magazines.
