Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Wednesday

The annual lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree takes place on Wednesday night.

Upwards of 20,000 people are expected to jam into the area to see the lights on the 72-foot tall Norway spruce turned on.  There will be performances by Diana Ross and Tony Bennett.

Security will be incredibly tight, with NYPD officials admitting they’re taking action to guard against a number of potential threats.

“Active shooter, vehicle ramming, improvised explosive devices,” Chief James Waters said.

The NYPD will have K-9 units, barriers, cement blocks and other measures in place to ensure the event is safe and secure.
