Staten Island Officer Dies From Mystery Illness

A 29-year-old NYPD officer died last week after battling an unknown illness for over a year. The family of Officer Brittany Gromadzin said her death was "totally unexpected."

Gromadzin's father, Jim Kelly told family and friends that his daughter had been undergoing weekly tests and treatments in an attempt to diagnose the ailment, but last week she became terribly ill and was rushed to the hospital where her battle ended.

Kelly took to social media to share his thoughts and heartache over losing his beloved daughter saying, "Our family was with Brittany during her final hours in the hospital. We all remain in shock, we are heartbroken and in total disbelief."

Gromadzin, a four year veteran of the NYPD served with the 121st Precinct on Staten Island. She is survived by her husband Jon and her 8-year-old daughter Gianna.

An article in the New York Post stated that over 100 uniformed officers attended Gromadzin's funeral at Holy Child Church in Staten Island.
