Mayor Bill de Blasio says city’s Board of Elections is “part of the problem,” after voting issues on election day.
“The really bad news is that the Board of Elections simply can’t function. It cannot do its job,” de Blasio said.
There were problems with scanners across the city, leading to long lines at polling places. The board blamed a complicated ballot and high voter turnout.
“Look, weeks and weeks of notice that this was going to be a higher turnout election than typical. The size of the ballot was not a shock. The Board of Elections was planning on that for a long time,” de Blasio said.
De Blasio said the Board of Elections “must change” its structure.
