Senator Bob Menendez Wins Re-Election

New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez will return to Washington D.C. for another six-year term.

He won re-election after a bitter campaign battle with Republican Bob Hugin.  In a controversial campaign ad, Hugin highlighted allegations that Menendez slept with underage prostitutes.

“I am so proud that New Jerseyans rejected the politics of personal destruction and the false, negative, salacious ads,” Menendez said during his victory speech.

Democrats were successful in most congressional races across the state.  In the 11th House District, former Navy helicopter pilot Mikie Sherrill beat Republican Jay Webber.  Republican Congresmsan Leonard Lance lost his re-election bid to Democrat Tom Malinowski.

The only congressional race Republicans won in New Jersey was in the 4th District, where Congressman Chris Smith held onto his seat.
