Governor Murphy: No Excuse for NJ Transit Problems

Governor Phil Murphy says it drives him crazy that NJ Transit continues to experience problems that leave commuters stranded.

“There’s no excuse for that,” Murphy said.

On Tuesday afternoon, there was a malfunction on a bridge over the Hackensack River.  That led to 90 minute delays in and out of Penn Station.  The day before, riders were stuck for nearly two hours on a train from New York to Montclair because of a power outage.

“The notion of getting people, if there is a problem, getting them off the damn train into a safer place - particularly a place that’s moving, that’s safe - is a huge objective of ours,” Murphy said.

NJ Transit has dealt with countless problems throughout the past year that have resulted in delayed and canceled trains.  Murphy argues that despite the recent incidents, service is improving.
