New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is calling for another round of tougher gun control laws after the mass shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh.
The latest series of bills target the trafficking of weapons. It would also tighten the restrictions on ammunition sales, allow for the expansion of smart gun technology and invest in community prevention programs.
“Gun safety has never been more important. New Jersey will continue to not only have among the best gun safety laws, but I promise that we’ll always work to make them even better,” Murphy said.
Eleven people were killed at the Tree of Life synagogue over the weekend when a gunman opened fire. President Trump is scheduled to visit Pittsburgh on Tuesday.
Officials in New Jersey complain that the state is hurt by weak laws in other states and the federal government being unwilling to take addition steps to strengthen laws.
“We have among the strongest gun safety laws in America, but in the face of inaction in Congress and in the Trump Administration, we’re always looking to make them stronger,” Murphy said.
