Overnight Cleaning Crews Will Return to Several Subway Lines

The MTA's decision to cut many of the overnight subway station cleaning crews has backfired.

TWU Local President Tony Utano told the New York Post that the MTA has decided to bring back the crews because several stations smell of rotting garbage.

Utano added, "We told the MTA last year that their plan to practically eliminate overnight cleaner positions stunk to high heaven. We're glad the new administration now appears to agree and is restoring the positions at the affected stations."

Late night subway rider Rebecca Foote said, "There is garbage and trash underneath the seats and benches, so I don't sit down. Sometimes there is vomit at night, which isn't nice. I feel uncomfortable there is no one from the MTA in the stations at night."

The MTA admitted that the move to eliminate overnight cleaning crews was a bad idea and has decided 30 new cleaning crew members will be deployed to the A, R, 6, and D lines.
