Vermin Scare Con-Ed Workers Away From NYCHA Building

The troubles just keep stacking up for the New York City Housing Authority.  First it was the lead paint testing issue. Then it was the expose on the unsafe living conditions. Now the problem is a rat infestation that is so overwhelming that Con Edison workers are afraid to enter and read the meters. As a result of not being able to enter the building, some residents have been getting charged an extra $25.00 on their monthly bills.

Residents of the Claremont Rehab apartments say they have complained about the infestation for months but it wasn't until a video that showed five rats gathered on top of a washing machine and another drinking from a utility sink that any action was taken.

Residents of the NYCHA run complex have a six-page list of complaints outside of the superintendent's office that dates back to 2012.

Con Edison spokesman Philip O'Brien told the New York Post that the utility company will waive the inaccessibility fees now that NYCHA has promised to clean up the rat issue as soon as possible.
