Governor Murphy Orders Investigation Into Former Aide

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is promising an investigation into why his administration hired someone accused of sexual assault.

Al Alvarez worked for the Schools Development Authority until his sudden resignation earlier this month.  Campaign volunteer Katie Brennan claims she was sexually assaulted by Alvarez in April 2017.  He denies the allegations.

“We will not follow the lead of Washington, this will be a real investigation designed to uncover the truth of what happened wherever it leads. We're not playing politics, we owe the people of New Jersey transparency and that's exactly what we'll provide,” Murphy said.

Former New Jersey Attorney General Peter Verniero will lead the investigation.
