Substitute Teacher Arrested on Child Endangerment Charge

A substitute teacher who threatened to burn a student with a cigarette lighter was arrested by the NYPD after the student and his parents reported the incident.

Witnesses at New Millennium Business Academy told law enforcement officials that substitute teacher Alexander Jorge stalked an unidentified 13-year-old student around the classroom and threatened to burn him with a lighter if he didn't complete an in-class assignment in the allotted time.

The student and his parents allege that Jorge came so close to the child with the lit lighter that the child suffered a minor bruise to his arm.

Department of Education spokesman Doug Cohen released a statement to the New York Post that said, "these are deeply troubling allegations, and we immediately suspended this substitute teacher without pay pending the resolution of his criminal case."

Jorge has been a substitute teacher in NYC since 2014. He was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment.
