NJ Proposes Plastic Bag Ban

State lawmakers in New Jersey are moving forward with a plan that would ban the use of plastic bags.

The plan won approval from a State Senate panel and would also ban Styrofoam containers and plastic straws.  A 10-cent fee would be added to paper bags used at stores as well.

Earlier in 2018, the New Jersey legislature approved a measure that would have imposed a 5-cent fee on plastic bags.  That was vetoed by Governor Phil Murphy at the urging of those who wanted a complete ban.
