New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is asking the Trump Administration to help pay for the Gateway Tunnel project.
The tunnel would expand rail capacity between New York and New Jersey, which Murphy said is vital for the region. He also said it’s important economically for the entire nation.
“There is perhaps no project in which the economic future of our entire country and our national security are so inextricably intertwined,” Murphy said.
The governor pointed out problems with the existing portal bridge, which is over 100 years old. He said it often gets stuck, which disrupts the commute for riders.
