Nats Win Series Opener 5-4 Over Mets

  • Steven Matz faced off against Nats ace Max Scherzer.
  • Nats got on the board first with a two run Home Run by Anthony Rendon in the top of the first, 2-0 Washington after the top of the first.
  • Mets got one back when Jose Bautista singled in a run in the bottom of the second, 2-1 Nats.
  • Rendon did it again in the third with a solo HR this time, 3-1, Washington.
  • Jose Bautista matched that feat with a solo shot of his own to make it 3-2 after 4 innings.
  • Matz gave the Mets a quality start, going 6 and 1/3rd innings giving up just the two runs.
  • Bryce Harper stroked a two run home run off Jerry Blevins in the 7th, and it was 5-2 Washington.
  • Mets got one back in the bottom of the 7th when Kevin Plewecki blasted a home run
  • Max Scherzer was done after 7, giving up the three runs on 5 hits with 5 k’s.
  • Mets inched closer in the 8th after Asdrubal Cabrera slammed a solo HR and it was all of a sudden a 5-4 game in the bottom of the 8th!
  • Mets got the leadoff man on in the 9th, but Reyes hit into a fielders choice and Amed Rosario grounded into a double play and the Mets fell 5-4 in the series opener.
