Mother Killed, Son Injured in Brooklyn Accident

A mother has been killed and her 6-year-old son badly injured after being hit by a car in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn.

Shaena Sinclair, 33, and her son were standing at a bus stop at Remsen and Seaview Avenues on Tuesday night when two cars collided, sending one of them into the mother and child.  They were rushed to the hospital where Sinclair was pronounced dead.  The 6-year-old boy remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition.

A resident of the neighborhood said Sinclair is well known in the community.

"She comes to visit her mother and she brings her 6-year-old son to visit her mother all the time," a man told WOR's Alice Stockton-Rossini.  "And if you would have heard the impact, the way it sounded, you knew, something bad had happened just from the impact."

Both drivers remained at the scene.  No arrests have been made.

Witnesses said drivers often speed in the area.  It’s unclear which driver was at fault.

"We've been advocating for the longest for speed cameras.  This is not the first accident we had on this block.  This is not the first tragedy we had on this block.  I don't know what the hell the Department of Transportation is waiting for," the resident said.
