Mets 2, Yankees 0 - Mets Finish Home Stand With A Win!
Seth Lugo got the spot start against the Yankees after Noah Syndergaard was just not ready yet to return. He opposed the Yankees ace Luis Severino.
Lugo was great, keeping the Yanks at bay through five.
Mets got on the board in the 5th when Jose Reyes stroked a single and Todd Frazier smashed a two run HR to make it 2-0 Mets in the bottom of the 5th.
Seth Lugo continued his fantastic night by retiring the final 13 batters he faced, striking out Stanton to end the top of the 6th, keeping the shutout alive.
Robert Gsellman pitched a scoreless 7th
Gsellman continued in the 8th and got the first out. Then after an Andujar single, Arron Judge came on to pinch hit. He hit a tailor-made ground ball that should have ended the inning but Jose Reyes threw the ball away and after a review, the umps said that Reyes didn’t touch second so there were no outs on the play and two men on.
But Gsellmen shrugged it off and retired the next to on pop fly balls and the crisis was averted.
Bottom 9, Anthony Swarzak was on, one night after giving up a first pitch home run and he got Stanton looking for the first out, but walked Bird.
Gary Sanchez was up and he lined sharply to Todd Frazier who quickly threw to first for the double play and the game, losing streak and round one of the Subway Series was over. Mets Win 2-0, the first team to shut out the Bombers this season.
Mets hit the road and are off Monday, they begin a 10 game road trip starting in Atlanta on Tuesday night with the first pitch at 7:35, Mets on Deck with Pete McCarthy and his weekly spot with Jerry Blevins, starts at 6:05.
