Fashion Icon Kate Spade Commits Suicide

The mourning continues on the Upper East Side after the suicide of fashion designed Kate Spade.

She was found by a housekeeper in her Park Avenue home on Tuesday morning.  Spade hanged herself with a red scarf.  NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea said a suicide note was found at the scene.

“The contents of that note as well as the physical state of the apartment and the comments of the witness lend to the credibility that it is an apparent suicide,” Shea said.

Page Six reports the note included a message for her 13-year-old daughter Frances Beatrix Spade.

“This has nothing to do with you,” the note reportedly said.  “Don’t feel guilty.  Ask your dad.”

Kate Spade was married to Andy Spade for 24 years.  He was home when her body was found.

Spade began her career as a magazine editor who launched her company based on the idea that women needed six kinds of bags.  It made her a fashion icon with more than 100 stores across the country.

Spade’s brother, actor David Spade, posted a picture of the two on Instagram.

“She was so sharp and quick on her feet.  She could make me laugh so hard.  I still can’t believe it.  It’s a rough world out there people, try to hang on,” David Spade wrote.

Kate Spade was 55 years old.
