Mets Fall To O's 2-1, Fifth Straight Loss

  • Jason Vargas got the start and had a typical Jason Vargas first inning, giving up an RBI single to Manny Machado and a sac fly and the O’s led 2-0 before the Mets came to bat.
  • Vargas ran into trouble in the second but wiggled out and really settled down after that, keeping the game 2-0 through 5 innings.
  • Bottom of the 5th, Mets got one back as Jose Bautista hit a run scoring sac fly, and it was 2-1 Baltimore after 5.
  • Seth Lugo came on in the 6th and had a quick 1-2-3 inning.
  • Alex Cobb who started for the Orioles came into the game with just one win, stifled the Mets for 6 innings giving up just two hits and 7 strikeouts.
  • Mets had a opportunity in the 8th. Brandon Nimmo dropped a beautiful one out bunt and legged it out for a single and the Mets had two on with one out.
  • Asdrubal Cabrera couldn’t get either man in as he grounded into a double play to end the threat
  • Mets got the guys they wanted up in the 9th, Conforto, Frazier and Bruce, but the first two popped out softly. Jay Bruce, down to the Mets final out, drew a walk, and on came Kevin Plewecki, who drew a full count, but suffered the same fate as he popped out and the Mets fell for the 5th straight game.
