Jason Vargas got the start and had a typical Jason Vargas first inning, giving up an RBI single to Manny Machado and a sac fly and the O’s led 2-0 before the Mets came to bat.
Vargas ran into trouble in the second but wiggled out and really settled down after that, keeping the game 2-0 through 5 innings.
Bottom of the 5th, Mets got one back as Jose Bautista hit a run scoring sac fly, and it was 2-1 Baltimore after 5.
Seth Lugo came on in the 6th and had a quick 1-2-3 inning.
Alex Cobb who started for the Orioles came into the game with just one win, stifled the Mets for 6 innings giving up just two hits and 7 strikeouts.
Mets had a opportunity in the 8th. Brandon Nimmo dropped a beautiful one out bunt and legged it out for a single and the Mets had two on with one out.
Asdrubal Cabrera couldn’t get either man in as he grounded into a double play to end the threat
Mets got the guys they wanted up in the 9th, Conforto, Frazier and Bruce, but the first two popped out softly. Jay Bruce, down to the Mets final out, drew a walk, and on came Kevin Plewecki, who drew a full count, but suffered the same fate as he popped out and the Mets fell for the 5th straight game.
