Mets Fall 5-1 To Cubs, Lugo Pitches Well in First Start


Mets returned home after the road trip and had Seth Lugo making his first start of the season out of the bullpen.

Mets had an opportunity to put runs on the board in the bottom of the third when they had the bases loaded and two out, but Michael Conforto grounded out and the threat was gone.

Lugo made it through the fourth inning and he hit his pitch count but kept the game scoreless.

Hansel Robles came in the top of the 5th. Kyle Schwarber walked and Ben Zobrist hit a two-run home run into the Mets bullpen and it was 2-0 Cubs.

Schwarber Singled home another run in the 6th off of Jerry Blevins to make it 3-0 Cubs.

Buddy Baumann came on to pitch for the Mets in the 7th. He walked the leadoff batter, Albert Almora, gave up a double to Ben Zobrist and a run scored when Jason Heyward grounded out to make it 4-0 Cubs.

Mets couldn’t get anything going on offense for the first 7 inning at all. Jose Quintana, the starter, gave up just three hits, no runs and struck out 6 in his 6 innings of work.

Bottom of the 8th, Mets finally got on the board when Brandon Nimmo stroked a solo HR, 4-1 Cubs

Wilson Contrares Hit A Sac Fly in the 9th to pad the Cubs Lead 5-1.

Mets got a couple on in the 9th, but they couldn’t get anymore across and the Cubs won the opener 5-1.
