Mets, Vargas Blank Marlins 2-0 At CitiField

  • Jason Vargas took the hill, looking for his first good start of the season after a very disappointing start
  • Asdrubal Cabrera had the early RBI with a Double that drove in Amed Rosario and the Mets led 1-0 in the third.
  • Vargas gave the Mets exactly what they needed in what was by far his best start of the season. 5 innings of two hit scoreless ball and he struck out 7.
  • Paul Sewald came in and ran into trouble with two outs and two on in the 6th. Jerry Blevins came in and walked his man to load the bases.
  • AJ Ramos would get a big strikeout of Derek Dietrich to keep the Marlins scoreless in the 6th.
  • Wilmer Flores tagged on an RBI Single in the 7th and the Mets had some insurance, a 2-0 lead heading to the 8th.
  • Mets Pen kept the Marlins scoreless into the 9th when Jeurys Familia came on and closed the game out for his 13th save.
  • Mets Continue their mid-week series with the Marlins, Zack Wheeler on the hill, First pitch 7:10, Mets on Deck 6:05
