On a rainy afternoon in Flushing, the Mets found themselves behind early as Zack Wheeler gave up a solo Home Run to Justin Smoak in the first to put the Amazin’s behind 1-0 before they even got to bat.
The rain was constant thought the first 4 innings and at one point in the bottom of the third an “unofficial” delay came as the grounds crew added drying agent to the field as the rain continued.
The wheels fell off Wheeler after the “delay” as he gave up a 2-run home run to Teoscar Hernandez in the 4th, 3-0 Blue Jays
Josh Donaldson added an RBI Single and Justin Smoak knocked a two-run double and Wheeler’s day was done, Mets trailed 6-0.
Robert Gsellman came on and closed out the inning with no further damage.
Josh Donaldson added an RBI Sac Fly in the top of the 6th inning and Teoscar Hernandez added an RBI single, 8-0 Toronto
Kevin Pillar wrapped up the scoring in the 6th with an RBI Single 9-0 Toronto
Richard Urena hit a three-run home run in the top of the 9th and the Toronto lead was 12-0
Finally the Mets got on the board with a solo Home Run by Brandon Nimmo in the 9th, which would provide the final score 12-1.
