New Security Tested at World Trade Center PATH

The Port Authority is trying out a new security device at the World Trade Center PATH station.

On Thursday and Friday, commuters can walk through a body scanner that can detect for hidden weapons.  Right now, the screening is voluntary as officials test out the screening method.

“The idea behind this pilot program is to evaluate another resource available to us in the effort to ensure the continuing protection and security of the traveling public,” said Port Authority Chief Security Officer John Bilich.

This is the first time the body scanner is being tested at a Port Authority facility, although it has previously been tested at the Port Authoriyt’s headquarters.

The machine can handle up to 600 people an hour.
